Chiropractic Manipulation

Chiropractic Manipulation

Chiropractic manipulation, or the adjustment, is the foundation of our treatment strategy at our Northbrook location. The chiropractic adjustment is a therapeutic treatment that first involves locating joints that are restricted and irritated through an in-depth exam. Often these joints have underlying conditions - such as adhesions, joint degeneration, arthritis and herniated or bulging discs. Once identified, these joints are safely mobilized with a light thrust to help restore proper alignment, movement and function. Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to be extremely effective at not only reducing neck and back pain, but also slowing or stopping arthritis and degenerative changes. Many studies have consistently shown that chiropractic care is the most effective treatment for relieving back and neck pain. Dr. Lee and his chiropractic associates have had several years of in-depth training and experience in five different chiropractic techniques, two of which use tools and require no popping. While the adjustment offers profound results, it's far from all we do, and we treat many conditions beyond just the neck and back. By combining the adjustment with other techniques, such as Active Release Technique, (ART) or physiotherapy, Dr. Lee and his staff have been able to alleviate pain for many Body Fusion Chiropractic patients quickly and effectively.

Active Release TechniqueActive Release Technique (ART)

Active Release Technique, or ART, is a patented and state-of-the-art deep tissue massage technique that combines stretching and muscle work to treat soft tissue injuries in muscles, fascia, ligaments and nerves. Because of its fast and long-lasting results, many athletes have relied on this form of treatment to alleviate their pain quickly so they can continue to compete at optimal levels. However, almost anyone can benefit from ART. This form of treatment works great for chronic pain as well. With this technique, a doctor will assess the patient for areas where there are adhesions, spasms or scar tissue. Once the area has been identified, the doctor will stretch the muscle, fascia or ligaments through a range of motion, while he holds a strong contact point and takes a firm pass over the muscle or soft tissue. ART does an excellent job at removing the spasms, scar tissue and adhesions to allow the muscle and soft tissue to function properly again. While very few doctors use this technique because of the many hours of required continuing education, ART is an extremely useful procedure that is too often overlooked.

Physiotherapy/ Exercise Therapy

Physiotherapy/ Exercise Therapy

Many of our doctors are NBCE board certified in physiotherapy in addition to chiropractic medicine. This allows them to perform adjunct modalities such as ultrasound, electric muscle stimulation, exercise therapy and many other techniques. Modalities such as ultrasound and electric muscle stimulation are used to reduce pain, inflammation and muscle spasms while speeding up your recovery time. Exercise therapy is often prescribed by the doctor in order to strengthen, stabilize and improve flexibility of the spine and the surrounding joints and musculature. Some of these exercises are performed in the office during the treatment, but a majority are shown to the patient by the doctor to be performed at home. These therapies can increase the effectiveness of the treatments, help maintain any corrections that have been made and help prevent reoccurrence of the injury. With this additional training, Dr. Lee can be more thorough with his diagnosis and treatment strategies, treat a wider range of conditions and offer longer lasting results.

Flexion Distraction TherapyFlexion Distraction Therapy

Flexion Distraction Therapy is a type of manual decompression that combines traction with flexion and sometimes lateral flexion that can be focused at specific spinal segments and discs in the lower back. This is extremely effective at rehabilitating disc issues (herniated, bulging and degenerated discs), arthritis and sciatic pain, as well as many simple mechanical low back issues. If your current rehab program for low back pain isn't working, this could be your answer. To understand the theory behind it, we must first look at the anatomy of the spine. Between every two vertebrae (vertebral bones), there is a disc. This is a type of joint in which there is a gelatinous center surrounded by fibrous ligaments. When these ligaments weaken or tear, the center of the disc can balloon out and compress the nerves of the spine, leading to an array of problems. When we use flexion distraction therapy to treat this condition, the disc is flexed and distracted (tractioned). This creates a negative pressure inside the disc, allowing the gelatinous material inside the disc to move back toward the center of the disc, taking pressure off the nerves. This type of treatment is not only effective, but also non-invasive and pain-free. This technique generally does not make the cavitation, or popping sound, when being performed, which is appreciated by our patents who don't like the sound that your joints can make when getting adjusted.

Sports Therapy

Sports Therapy

Whether you are a professional athlete or a weekend warrior, Body Fusion Chiropractic in Northbrook, IL, can address your needs. Dr. Lee has been trained in and has received over 12 years of experience in sports therapy, and has worked with a broad spectrum of athletes - ranging from amateur to professional status. While Dr. Lee spent the last two years of his career treating primarily triathletes and contact-related sports injuries, he currently sees a broad spectrum of clients in the Illinois area. By combining chiropractic with sports therapy, ART, physiotherapy and kinesotaping, Dr. Lee is able to get athletes out of pain and back into competition quickly. He has found he can successfully apply sports therapy to the general population to achieve better treatment results.

Massage

Massage

Massage has been shown not only to reduce pain, muscle tension and inflammation but also to improve circulation and reduce stress. Our highly skilled massage therapists offer an array of different massage techniques, ranging from sports and deep tissue massage, to swedish and relaxation massage. We offer very competitively priced 30 and 60 minute massages. With a referral from the doctor, these massages can oftentimes be covered by your insurance company.

Kinesio Taping

The Kinesio Taping® Method is a rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body's natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body's range of motion. Latex-free and wearable for days at a time, Kinesio® Tex Tape is safe for populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric, and successfully treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions. By targeting different receptors within the somatosensory system and creating microscopic lifting of the skin, Kinesio® Tex Tape alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage - helping to reduce inflammation quickly. Dr. Lee is a certified Kinesio Taping practitioner, and uses this technique to help reduce pain and maintain corrections between visits.

CBP/ Chiropractic Biophysics

Chiropractic Biophysics is an overall postural approach that uses exercise and traction to help restore proper curvatures and postures of the spine. Using this technique, Dr. Lee has addressed and successfully treated many pathologic postures that would have otherwise lead to more chronic problems.

Foot Orthotics

Foot Orthotics

At our Northbrook chiropractic location, we can evaluate, cast and fit patients for foot orthotics. These orthotics are designed to help correct for falling arches and pronation that, if left uncorrected, can lead to foot, ankle, knee, hip and low back problems. We offer rigid orthotics for severe cases, but generally recommend semi-rigid orthotics for mild to moderate cases. Rigid orthotics are made of a harder plastic material and allow little or no movement in the foot. Semi-rigid orthotics are typically more comfortable and functional. They are padded and allow for some movement in the foot while limiting any pathological movement in the foot. These work great for our younger and more active clientele.

Nutritional Therapy

Nutritional Therapy

This type of therapy involves using diet, vitamins and over-the-counter herbs and supplements to help improve overall health. It is of particular benefit to people with poor health, poor diet, food allergies, loss of energy, high stress, headaches and chronic pain issues. Without a proper dietary foundation, many health problems can ensue. Come see how you can improve your health and reduce your bothersome symptoms just by changing your diet.

In our Northbrook chiropractic office, we have years of experience helping patients who have been injured in accidents - whether in a car, or at work. When you choose a chiropractor, it's important to choose a doctor who is experienced in not only properly diagnosing, treating and triaging your injury, but also someone experienced in dealing with insurance companies and attorneys. Dr. Lee is a seasoned chiropractor with an excellent working relationship with many local doctors and attorneys. He works with them to help get you the care you need and successfully settle your case. If someone else is responsible for your injury, Dr. Lee is willing to take the case on lien - meaning he'll wait until your case settles until he collects payment.
